Sun Valley

We just spent a couple weeks in Sun Valley with the waggers...so much fun. The trails are incredible for hiking and mountain bike riding. There's also a wide selection of campgrounds in the Ketchum area. Most of the trails we took the dogs on were right along a river or creek. This was important, because it was in the high 80's every day.

Of course, it wouldn't be a trip without a visit to the local vet clinic. After a short mountain bike ride with the dogs, Turbie seemed a bit out of it. After an examination, blood test, and x-ray, everything came out normal. She was dehydrated and had a bit of heat exhaustion, so they put her on a IV. It must of been an an accumulated effect of everything we had been doing. Turbie doesn't know when to stop and she wants to go all day from sun up to sun down...typical Vizsla.

We definitely want to go back to this area, there's still more trails to explore.

Telluride

We just got back from a 2 week road trip to Telluride. The views are breathtaking, and the mountain bike riding and hiking is awesome. We had a great time with the waggers. They love chasing marmots and prairie dogs...very exciting. Every day we had people stop us to ask about the dogs. The two things I would say - Vizsla - Thank you. What kind of dogs are those? Vizslas They are so beautiful. Thank you. Yes, these waggers are pretty cute. We had a couple beautiful camp sites about 5 miles outside of Telluride...we were right in the middle of an aspen grove. It's such a wonderful place, we didn't want to leave.

Next stop is Sunny Valley, Idaho in a couple weeks. Stay tuned for more adventures. I'll try to take more pictures.

Nevada City - Yuba River

I'm way behind on my postings. Over Father's Day weekend we went to Nevada City to watch a bike race and we camped out on the Yuba River for a few days. The girl that won the woman's race (Katrina Nash) also has a Vizsla. Katrina and her husband stopped by to see us with their Vizsla and we also ran into 2 other Vizsla owners. It was a little tailgate party.

The hiking on the Yuba river is so much fun. Lotsa of trails and water.

Big Sur

We did our first RV trip to Big Sur. We started out early Friday morning to beat the commute traffic. Turbie and Remo were all curled up for their first trip.

As we got to Big Sur we noticed the sign "all campgrounds full". This wasn't a good sign. We planned to stay at Kirk Creek and they don't allow reservations, so it's a first come first serve basis. This campground only has 34 sites and it's sits on a cliff above the ocean with spectacular views. Sure enough it was also full, so we had to go to plan "B". That means wing it, cuz there was no plan B. We ended up driving to San Simeon and we found a really nice site there. We asked for a nice spot away from everyone and we had a really good view. Brian put up a small fence, so the dogs wouldn't bother other people trying to have a picnic. They love to grub around for a hotdog or a hamburger.

The next day we tried again to get into Kirk Creek, but it was still full. They told us we could get a site the following night. We then got a good tip, to take a narrow road up to the trails and we would find pull outs for parking & camping. This probably ended up being the best tip. We found a beautiful spot with a view of Big Sur. It was also about 20 degrees warmer as we drove up from the coast. We had some trails to hike on from this road, but it was pretty hot on the trails. We ended up doing a couple shorter hikes, so we weren't in the heat too long.

On our last day we finally ended up in Kirk Creek and we had a beautiful spot. It was a bit foggy on our last day, but when we walked across the road to the trail head, the temperature changed drastically. It was really pleasant hiking back down into the fog. We also had a trail that took us down to the ocean. It was a beautiful area, but no beach, just a lot of rocks.

On our way home yesterday, we stop in Carmel and hit the public beach off Ocean St. This is a great beach for dogs and no leashes are required.

Our first trip was a great adventure. We have a lot of things to learn with the RV and researching camp sites and destinations. This first trip was trial by error, but we ended up having a great time. I think we picked a perfect time to go, because this area can get really foggy in the summer.

This weekend we're off to the Yuba River.

Ready for a Road Trip

We just picked up our new RV the other day and we spent most of today getting everything organized for our first road trip. I think our first trip will be down the coast next weekend to Carmel, Big Sur, and Santa Barbara to hit every beach on the way. Check out our new digs for many more red wagger adventures.

Looking for a RV

Brian and I have been looking for a RV the past couple weeks. Saturday, we drove up to Roseville to check out a few, Tubie & Remo both liked the one we saw in Roseville. We did a test drive and they found their spot on the sofa. They also liked the dealership, cuz they left pizza sitting around (unattended) and Turbie managed to eat all the toppings. She was very thirsty on the drive home!

Yesterday, we drove to Grass Valley to look at a few more. Turbie & Remo met with the salesman to negotiate a price. They also had another Vizsla Reggie in the dealership that was 7 months old. One more dog to play with, unfortunately I didn't get a good picture of Reggie, but he was a handsome dog.

Hopefully, we'll make a decision by the end of this week. Just in time for the road trip season.

Sorich

Sorich is a very dog friendly place to take your dogs. It's located between San Anselmo and Fairfax. I usually come here once a week. The foxtail is still green, but I'm guessing in about 4 weeks we won't be coming back until the fall. There are some trails and fireroads, and plenty of open fields for the dogs to run. Occasionally, we find a jack rabbit to chase, but not today. Turbie was hopping through the grass looking and sniffing, but none to be found. It was actually pretty warm out there. We found a couple water holes and one small stream, but I think those will be dried up in a couple months, unless we get some rain.
